Operational update, May 2023
The annual planned shutdown of the Cornwall energy recovery centre
(CERC) will soon be taking place. This is to allow for routine
inspections and maintenance of the plant.
We will do this in a phased approach, closing one line on Monday 8
May whilst the second line continues to run until the middle of the month. Both
lines will then be shutdown to allow for maintenance on shared systems and will
then be brought back into service in early June.
When we re-start each line, low pressure steam will be released
through the roof vents during the re-start process, which may be visible.
Once the facility is back to full operation and producing the
required steam quality, the turbine will be restarted to allow electricity to
be exported again.
When the turbine is restarted there is a further potential for
steam to be released. As such, people in the local area may see steam coming
from the facility at intervals accompanied by low level noise as the steam is
released. In advance of this we will send you a further update to forewarn you
of the potential for some minor disturbance. This will also appear in the
news section of our website.
